Narrative, Power and Commemoration in Conflicted Societies
Northern Ireland's divisions, and its difficulties in dealing with the legacy of violence are often presented as a political throwback. Yet many societies are grappling with similar problems, which have emerged from conflicts over identity, sovereignty and nationality.
Northern Ireland is by no means alone in dealing with these problems of commemoration, communal division, and political conflict.
Sharing information and research findings from similar contexts could provide fresh perspectives, as well as guides to policy making.
The conference will provide insights into important case studies by a variety of experts on the politics of commemoration.
Invited speakers will talk about their research, or practice, in settings such as Kosovo, Bosnia, Cyprus, Lebanon, Palestine, Israel, and Northern Ireland.
