As a part of Outburst Arts 20th Anniversary festival - "Tenderly Queer: Connections of Queer artists in Northern Ireland and Myanmar” is a cross-cultural collaboration led by two queer artists — Ri (Myanmar) and Emma Campbell (Northern Ireland) - thinking with care about identity, resilience, and resistance in vastly different but politically charged contexts.

Through participatory workshops, photographers in Myanmar and Northern Ireland Tenderly Queer held spaces for emerging artists to think about visibility, safety, community, and survival. The images you encounter are from their projects which have evolved over 2026, sharing rural, urban, domestic and intimate experiences of queer life.

Featured from Myanmar, artists Aung Htet Phyo, Gabriel Htoo, Ri, Po Po Phoo Pyae Aung and Phyo Myat Min. Featured from Northern Ireland, artists Ellen Blair, Emma Campbell, Brad Eager, Kyslyn Tun and Mason Shelvin.

This project has been supported by the British Council Cultural Connections award and Ulster University’s Belfast School of Art and Array Collective.
