University of Ulster / eLearning / Your Questions
How do I know that eLearning will work for me?
eLearning has a number of advantages over traditional campus-based education.
The advantages are:
- 1. Students are not limited by geography: They can study at institutes with international reputations for research and learning.
- 2. Students do not have to leave their home or workplace.
- 3. Students have greater flexibility regarding study.
- 4. The electronic medium brings students into contact with other people whose experience and insights are valuable.
- 5. No time is wasted in travelling and often some courses can be combined with employment.
The disadvantages are:
- 1. Students may find it difficult to timetable the work involved. (However, advice will be given on how to overcome time management problems).
- 2. Students may experience specific technical problems. (Again, advice will be provided on how to deal with technical problems encountered).
- 3. Some employers and managers may not understand eLearning and the commitment required.
