What type of accommodation is available at Ulster?
Ulster University has a range of accommodation available to suit your needs, taste and budget. On-campus accommodation is located beside or adjacent to University facilities and services and is ideal for first year or international students.
Off-campus accommodation can be immediately adjacent to the university or a few miles away, offering greater level of independence within a supportive environment. View accommodation options and features of each campus.
How do I apply for accommodation at Ulster?
Ulster University offer an 'accommodation guarantee' to all Conditional Firm (CF) and Unconditional Firm (UF) students through UCAS who apply for accommodation before 7 July 2016 and are accepted onto their first choice course.
You will receive an email in the first week of May advising applications are open and giving you your Banner number and information on how to apply.
The full application process is done online.
To submit an online application you will be required to pay the £100 booking fee by credit/debit card. International students are guaranteed a room if they apply by the 1 August 2016 (or 30 November 2016 for the second semester).
What is the booking fee for?
The booking fee insures student personal possessions within the room, the University in respect of non-attributable damage and contributes to the social fund for residents events throughout the year.
The booking fee becomes non-refundable only when you have been sent and accepted a room offer online.
What length of accommodation contracts are available?
Accommodation contracts operate for 37 weeks of the academic year from mid-September to early June.
Students can apply for semester one contract only, however priority is given to students requiring accommodation for the full academic year.
Semester one only contracts will be subject to a 10% surcharge as the University may be unable to find another student to take the room for the other part of the year.
What if I want female-only, male-only or mixed accommodation?
When completing the online application, you can confirm your preference for single or mixed sex accommodation.
We make every effort to allocate rooms in accordance with your stated preference, but it is not always possible.
Can I view the accommodation?
There is an accommodation open day organised on each campus in June to allow students to view the accommodation in advance.
An email will be sent to all prospective students.
What type of support is available in University accommodation?
Night Support Assistants (NSAs) are available throughout the night on campus to deal with health and safety issues, provide a reception service to students/visitors, and they also have a disciplinary role ensuring that residents behave in a considerate manner.
Resident Assistants (RAs) are located both on and off-campus. These are experienced students who are trained in health and safety and are there to help students by providing peer support on issues such as homesickness, isolation, loneliness and signpost residents to the appropriate support services available within the University.
NSAs and RAs are supported by University Security who are available 24 hours a day seven days a week.
I use a wheelchair and would like to live in University accommodation. Is there accessible accommodation available?
Yes, there are a number of wheelchair accessible rooms in shared flats or single occupancy flats available for students with a disability. These flats have accessible bathroom and kitchen facilities.
All accommodation have accessible parking spaces in close proximity to residences.
Ulster University can make reasonable adjustments and provide additional equipment if appropriate.
What if I have a disability?
If you have a disability and have disclosed this on your UCAS application, it will be signalled to AccessAbility Team within Student Support. The AccessAbility team will then liaise with you and the various University departments to ensure the appropriate support is in place to aid a smooth transition into full-time education.
If you have not declared your disability or you happen to develop a disability once at University then you should contact AccessAbility immediately.
What if I am under 18 years old?
Ulster University tries in so far as possible to treat all students the same regardless of age. You are eligible for accommodation and subject to all of the normal rules and regulations.
The University is not in locos parentis and it is essential that we have up to date contact details of someone who is able to operate in a parental capacity in the event of an emergency.
Once you are enrolled at Ulster University you will be contacted by Student Support who will inform you of the services available within the University.
Residential Services will endeavour to offer you on-campus accommodation were available.
When will I receive information on whether I have been offered a room?
First year students applying through UCAS will be offered a room once they have been accepted onto their original course at Ulster University. You will receive an email to the email address you registered when you applied online advising you that a room offer has been made: to view the offer you will be required to log onto the accommodation portal (using the username and password you used to apply online initially) and either accept or reject the offer. If you are in any doubt regarding the status of your application, you should contact the appropriate Residential Services Office.
What are the accommodation fees and when must I pay?
The accommodation fees are available online. You will need to make a payment to accept your room offer. As part of the acceptance process you will need to advise how you are going to pay for the remainder of your accommodation fees. Further information on payment terms can also be found online.
