Prof Cath Collins began the first session of a 14-week course on transitional justice and human rights in the Open (Free) University of Recoleta, Santiago de Chile in April.  The university, which is open to all and has no entry requirements, is the brainchild of a local mayor and aims to open up access to third level education in Chile, a country with notoriously high levels of income inequality where university studies are prohibitively expensive. The course will include modules on enforced disappearance, informed by Prof Collins' ongoing Open Society funded research Project, and a visit to a local memory site.

In May, Prof Collins will be in El Salvador collaborating with the country´s search commission for the disappeared. Activities will include training, a public event and a course for local community animators who will be key interlocutors if the commission´s work is to be a success.
