This is the first in our planned series of discussions, bringing together a range of speakers to reflect on what success and impact in relation to peace and conflict would look like for Ireland during its term on the Council. It will also explore the priorities for Security Council action in conflict-affected contexts, and what we can learn from past experiences of member states on the Council. We're delighted to welcome speakers including a representative of the Dept of Foreign Affair's UN Task Team, alongside:

  • Prof Fionnuala Ní Aoláin, University of Minnesota, UN Special Rapporteur on the promotion and protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms while countering terrorism;
  • Prof Siobhan Wills, Transitional Justice Institute, Ulster University; Co-producer and co-director of Right Now I Want to Scream and It Stays With You
  • Radhya Al-Mutawakel, Mwatana Organisation for Human Rights; Yemen.
  • Louise Winstanley, ABColombia; and
  • Gustavo de Carvalho, Institute for Security Studies (ISS) Africa;

TJI Professor Emeritus Monica McWilliams will chair the discussion.
