As a Solicitor Advocate (and graduate of Ulster University) his caseload points to his passion for human rights, equality and family law. He has been at the forefront of some of the most significant public interest litigation for a generation in Northern Ireland including securing provision for Humanist marriages in here (Smyths JR), the successful judicial review protecting the privacy rights of transgender people, access to fertility treatment for same sex couples and recently an application to the European Court of Human Rights in the internationally debated matter of Lee -and- Ashers Bakery - the so-called "gay cake" case.
Ciaran also acts for charities and organisations that have an interest in significant court proceedings. He was instructed by the AIRE Centre in an immigration case before the European Court of Justice as well as for the Royal College of Midwives in JR 76 which challenged the prosecution of a mother for purchasing abortion pills online.
Ciaran is a founding partner of Phoenix Law Solicitors, an award-winning firm with a reputation for taking a modern and non-judgemental approach to the law. It operates in both the UK and Ireland.
