As the DFID-funded Political Settlements Research Programme (PSRP) draws to a conclusion, we are pleased to invite participants to share and discuss key findings from our gender research.
The conference will showcase new findings, and bring us into conversation with other researchers and practitioners, on three themes:
- Gender, peace processes and inclusion, which will include original data on gender provisions on peace agreements, women’s movement inclusion in peace processes, and gendered operation of new institutions post-agreement;
- International gender equality norms and inclusion, which involves new findings on international norms and their role in shaping local gender outcomes, in particular as (potential) leverage for the inclusion of women and gender issues in political settlements;
- Gender, violence and inclusion, which sets out groundbreaking new longitudinal and comparative data on the impact of violence against women on women’s ability to leverage inclusion in peace processes, agreements and post-conflict societies.
Throughout, contributors will reflect on methodological and ethical challenges in conducting gender research on political settlements.
At the conference, we will also formally launch the PSRP Gender Theme feminists@law journal Special Issue, with a Roundtable of policy-makers and practitioners reflecting on what we have learned about gender and inclusion through the PSRP.
The PSRP is a north-south academic-practitioner research consortium led by the University of Edinburgh Global Justice Academy, and including the Ulster University Transitional Justice Institute, Conciliation Resources, Rift Valley Institute and the Institute for Security Studies. Gender is a cross-cutting theme across the research programme, as well as the focus of several individual research projects.
