Ready to explore your campus

You may have friends starting with you but if you don’t or you’ve never lived away from home before, you may be feeling anxious.

At Ulster, we are really active in helping students settle in and make the most of the new experiences. We asked our current students for their advice – they’ve been in your position and know what it’s like to be new.

How did you make friends when you first arrived?

‘Don’t hide away – sit in communal areas, make eye contact and say hello’

‘Take part in induction events – be sociable and get involved’

‘Say YES to everything’

How did you stop feeling homesick?

Try and do things with your new housemates like cooking a meal together or watching a movie’

‘Talk to your friends/flatmates about how you feel - they're probably homesick too!’

‘Immerse yourself into the fun!’

How did you settle into uni life?

Get involved, make friends, join clubs, be open to a great time!’

‘Don’t go home every weekend’

‘Step out of your comfort zone, be confident even if you don’t feel it and have fun’
