Shane McCullough


Overview

Shane graduated from Ulster University in 1985 with a BA Hons in Sports Studies and in 1995 with an MSc in Sports Studies. He served for one year as a sabbatical officer in the Ulster University Students Union as Clubs and Societies President and the following nine years worked in both the secondary and further education sectors as a physical education teacher.

In 1995 he moved to the Irish Football Association to spearhead a major youth football development initiative and 2000 was appointed as manager of Ireland’s first Regional Sports Development Partnership. In 2004 he was appointed as a Lecturer in sports development and coaching at Ulster University, where he has served as Associate Head of School, Teaching and Learning Coordinator and Course Director.

Shane is a UEFA Pro License coach, which is the highest coaching award available in Europe, and has managed youth international teams and the senior women’s football squad. He has also managed the Ulster University team and let them to a number of victories in national leagues and cup competitions. He remains heavily involved in development committees at the Irish Football Association at professional and grassroots levels. He has also served as a Board Member of Sport NI, the lead agency for the development of sport in Northern Ireland and as a Director of Sports Institute NI, which oversees the funding and development of elite athletes.
