Teaching Interests

Kieran is providing replacement teaching cover for Dr. Sara Benetti while she is on career break during the 2016/17 academic year. This includes teaching aspects of coastal and marine science across the marine science, environmental science and geography degree programmes. He is also the School Study Abroad coordinator responsible for incoming and outgoing students on international study placements.

Research

Kieran’s main research interest is in marine/coastal geoarchaeology, focussing on understanding environmental change over time - principally through application of remote sensing and GIS – and exploring its impact on past societies and site formation processes. Specific areas of interest include: 1) Investigating the impact of present-day sea-level rise and coastal erosion on archaeological sites to enable better management of the historic environment; 2) Investigating and reconstructing submerged prehistoric landscapes using marine remote sensing as well as conventional diver-based methods.
