Kevin Gaffney is an artist filmmaker whose work has been shown in exhibitions and film festivals internationally. He graduated from Technological University Dublin with BA Fine Art (first class hons.) in 2008 and from the Royal College of Art’s MA Photography and Moving Image with distinction in 2011.

In 2014 he was an UNESCO-Aschberg laureate artist-in-residence at the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art’s residency in South Korea and his work was shown in two solo exhibitions at the Contemporary Art Institute (CAI02) in Japan (2014 & 2018).

His work has been shown at the Cork Film Festival (2016 & 2018), the 10th Imagine Science Film Festival (New York, 2017) and at the Irish Museum of Modern Art (2021), where it is part of the collection. A monograph of his work, Unseen By My Open Eyes, was published in 2017.

Gaffney is lecturer for Photography with Video. He has previously taught on the BSc (Hons) Cinematic Arts at Ulster University and has guest lectured at the London College of Communication and Technological University Dublin and was artist-in-residence at the Marino Institute for Education.

He is currently completing his PhD research on queer artist filmmaking practice at Ulster University. His PhD research has been published in the peer-reviewed Short Film Studies journal and was shown in a solo exhibition at the Crawford Art Gallery in Cork.
