Overview

Dr Dorian Dixon is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Engineering and a member of the Engineering Research Institute. Dorian joined Ulster University in 2001 as a Research Associate in the area of polymers for medical packaging applications before moving to a Research Fellow position in medical device development in 2003. He was appointed to a Lectureship in Nanotechnology in 2006 and promoted to his current position in 2014.

Dorian’s research and teaching interests are focused around nanomaterials and in particular developing functionalised gold nanoparticles for applications in cancer therapeutics. He also has interests in the medical and aerospace applications of advanced polymers. He has a wealth of industrial experience having conducted commercially funded projects with more than 25 companies in the polymer, aerospace and medical device sectors. Dorian is course director for the school’s suite of MSc courses and he teaches at undergraduate and postgraduate level across several courses.

Dorian graduated from Queen’s University Belfast in 1996 with a BEng Mechanical Engineering degree before completing a joint QUB and Ulster University MSc in Polymer Engineering and Science in 1997. He attained a PhD at QUB in 2001 that was sponsored by a local polymer processing company.
