The project is a sister organisation of Fighting Words Dublin, inspired by 826 Valencia and part of a growing number of creative writing centres around the world. The project is supported by a partnership between Young at Art, Fighting Words Dublin, 174 Trust and Skainos. Its patrons are the acclaimed writers Glenn Patterson, Roddy Doyle, Nick Hornby, Louise O’Neill and Dave Eggers.
The project’s aim is, in Glenn Patterson's words, to ‘empower children and young people to become the authors of their own lives’. All Fighting Words workshops take place outside a classroom setting in order to ‘de-school’ the creative writing experience. Fighting Words believe every child has an imagination to unlock and work tirelessly to empower children and young people through the art of story-telling.
The children & young people’s stories and illustrations from these workshops will be on display in the Riverside Gallery during March & April 2019.

These workshops are part of a special creative outreach programme for the local community as part of the 50 year anniversary celebrations on the Ulster University Coleraine campus this year.
