Dr Thomas Hansen convened the first meeting of a core group of experts in Kenya recently under the Global Research Challenge Fund research project supported by Ulster University. The meeting, which was attended by 15 widely recognized experts in international/ transitional justice in the country, facilitated initial discussion around four themes key to the Kenyan ICC cases, namely: 1) State cooperation; 2) Immunity of State officials; 3) complementarity; 4) Victims and Witnesses. The meeting also led to the adoption of a clear agenda on the process ahead, including methodology and standards for drafting, including a decision to create a database which provides access to the resources underpinning the Principles. The meeting was facilitated in cooperation with “Kenyans for Peace, Truth and Justice“ (KPTJ), an umbrella organization for human rights NGOs working in Kenya.
