Dr Thomas Hansen attended an ‘Investigations Workshop’ organized by the University of Essex Armed Conflict and Crisis Hub and hosted by Amnesty International at their London offices on 15 July.

Discussions were focused on the following topics:

  • What are the standards for States in relation to their own investigations during conflict?
  • How can NGOs engage, monitor, and critique state investigations?
  • What should NGOs and others be looking for when conducting investigations, with respect to the type of information needed to demonstrate humanitarian law violations, and what are the challenges in collection of such information?
