TJI welcomed four academics and a PhD Candidate from the University of Prishtina, Kosovo from 21-25 May 2018.

The delegation was made up of:

Prof. Dr. iur. Haxhi Gashi, Dean of the Law faculty and Professor of Civil Law, Property Law, Commercial Law.

Prof. Remzije Istrefi, Professor at the Law Faculty and the Department of Political Science.

Dafina Bucaj, Assistant Lecturer at the Department of International Law, Law Faculty.

Bashkim Preteni, Teaching Assistant at the Department of Private Law, Law Faculty.

Valeza Ukaj Elshani, PhD Candidate at Clemson University, South Carolina, USA, and a former Master of Law (LLM) student of the Catholic University of Leuven, Leuven, Belgium.

Whilst in Belfast the visitors met with Prof Rory O'Connell, TJI Director, Prof Paul Carmichael, Associate Dean for Global Engagement, Prof Bill Rolston, Former Director of TJI, and Marie Braniff, Director of INCORE. They also visited Parliament Building, Stormont and were taken on a tour of the building by Michael Potter, RAISE (Research and Information Services) and discussed existing links with Kosovo.

They met Brian Gormally, Director of the Committee on the Administration of Justice and visited Bridge of Hope with Eilish Rooney where they learned more about the Transitional Justice Grassroots Toolkit. The five day visit ended with a visit to the Magee Campus, to meet Prof Brandon Hamber and Dr Khanyisela Moyo.During their trip the visitors kindly gave a seminar to staff and PhD Researchers entitled ‘Reflections on Transitional Justice in Kosovo’ and discussed doctoral projects with our PhD Researchers. Our visitors presented on the following topics:

Prof. Asoc. Haxhi Gashi: Property rights during transition, example of Kosovo.

Prof. Remzie Istrefi:  Education for peace.

Ms. Valeza Ukaj: Gender violence during war.
