More than just a great place to pick up quirky home, fashion, giftware and artwork, UNIQUE is an important learning space and a forum for creative exploration and enterprise. For Ulster University’s Belfast School of Art students, UNIQUE is a chance to gain exposure, make professional connections and sell their work.
For local artist Katie Ireland, UNIQUE was a springboard to launch her career. Katie graduated from Ulster University in 2020 with a degree in Textile Art, Design and Fashion and now runs two successful businesses, Katie Ireland Designs where she sells prints and illustrations of Belfast buildings inspired by home and the urban environment, and Mala Belfast in partnership with two other Ulster alumni.
Katie explains:
“UNIQUE is very special to me. It helped kickstart my career. I started out selling prints and illustrations in the shop and thanks to the many opportunities available to students via UNIQUE I was able to grow my own business. I was given careers advice and support from the enterprise team to learn and grow and develop my network.”
