Previously a traditional lecture theatre, the space has undergone a complete transformation with students, staff and stakeholders playing a key role in the renaming and design process. The name Collab Lab was chosen as it underpins the unique layout of the room that will facilitate both collaborative learning and creative thinking.
The Collab Lab features flexible equipment and décor as well as emerging technology to ensure that the environment can be utilised by a wide range of users including staff and students as well as local businesses, charities and professional organisations. This space will act as an innovative platform for the local community that will encourage the free flow of ideas in an inspiring and welcoming environment.
Provost of the Coleraine Campus, Professor Karise Hutchinson established the project with the ambition to create a space that promotes university-community collaboration. Speaking on the launch, Provost Professor Karise Hutchinson said:
“The Collab Lab is a fantastic addition to the world-class facilities at our Coleraine campus. This has been a project of collaboration between our students, staff and stakeholders to create a space that promotes an exciting, distinctive experience for staff and students as well as being meaningful for the local community.
As we celebrate the 50th anniversary of the foundation of the Coleraine Campus we reflect on our history of excellence as well as implement ideas that will benefit the future generation as well as the wider community in Coleraine.”
The Collab Lab will be available to book through contacting Carmel Mimnagh at the Provost’s office on 028 7012 3030 or e-mailing firstname.lastname@example.org
