Meeting the needs of an aging population is an ongoing concern, however relatively little attention is given to the mental health needs of this group and their carers.

Researchers across several research institutes including Nursing & Health Sciences and Psychology are examining ways in which the care of older people can be managed and carers can be supported in a way that promotes the well-being of both parties.

Studies include the use of novel care management strategies, the use of technology to facilitate independence, and research to understand the factors that affect well-being in residential care settings. The Bamford centre’s EQUIP study focuses on integrated care for people living with dementia.

Our world-class nutrition researchers from NICHE have a number of ongoing studies looking at cognitive decline in the elderly.
