Campus Libraries Closed

All Campus Libraries are now closed until further notice following guidance from the University.

Library Loans / overdues / fines

From 17th March no fines will be added to any books or other items that have become overdue as a result of the Library closure.

At present there is no facility to return books or any other items to the library, even if you have a recently received a recall notice.

Access to our collections

At this time there is no facility to access or borrow books or other items in our collections or pick up any reservations.

Online resources

The Library continues to provide access to our full range of online resources: e-books, e-journals and databases.  Library staff have also prepared a curated list of additional e-resources being made available by publishers & suppliers during the COVID-19 crisis.

Support for students and staff while the campus libraries are closed

The Library will continue to provide support for students and staff using the following methods:

Support from Library Subject Teams

Our physical libraries may be closed to help prevent the spread of COVID-19, but the Library subject team is working from home to support students through a very unpredictable and anxious time. We have had to postpone booked face-to-face Library sessions out of necessity, but we are working to provide support in alternative media so you will not be disadvantaged by the closure.

If you had Library Inductions or subject-specific classes booked (excluding generic referencing and RefWorks), your lecturers will advise you of new arrangements when they are available.

Useful Email addresses:

  • Arts, Humanities and Social Science Library team:
  • Computing and Engineering Library team:
  • Life and Health Science Library team:
  • UUBS Library team:
  • Subject team members will respond to email enquires during normal working hours (9am-5pm Monday–Thursday, 9am-4pm Friday).

You can use the Subject Support Appointments service to arrange a meeting with subject support staff.  Although we cannot facilitate face-to-face meetings, we can set up an online classroom within Blackboard or use an alternative technology-mediated service.

    The Library Help service

Further support is available via the Library Help service.  This gateway allows you to browse the answers to FAQs and ask a question of your own.

    Library Subject Guides

Our Library Subject Guides contain a wealth of information on using the Library’s resources to find information to help you complete assignments, projects and dissertations.

    Laptop loans

The student laptop loan service is currently suspended while our libraries remain closed.
