Greater Belfast Development
Fact sheet: Belfast Library interim relocation, Sept 2021
To facilitate the delivery of the new library in Block BC in Belfast and the required refurbishments in Block BA, the Library will move to a new location in Block BB on the Belfast campus from Monday 20th September 2021.
Disruption of services will be kept to a minimum but in order for Library staff and equipment to be moved to Block BB, some services may be affected on Fri 17th September and Monday 20th September.
Dates mentioned below may change so please check the library homepage for further updates.
Why does the Library have to move?
To ensure that registered staff and students using the Belfast campus continue to have access to a range of library resources while work associated with the enhanced Belfast campus is completed.
Where will the Library be located from 20th September 2021?
Block BB, Level 2.
What services will be offered in the new location?
Library, Reprographics and ICT services will be available on Level 2 of Block BB. This includes open access computing with iMacs and PCs, printing and scanning facilities, quiet study spaces, a library Information Point, access to library stock and a pickup point for items requested via the Reserve and Collect service.
Library staff will be available to support current students and staff during advertised opening hours.
A safe study environment will continue to be maintained, with regular cleaning in accordance with University infection control guidelines. A face covering should be worn at all times when in the library, including when seated.
What happens if I want to return a book?
A book return unit is in place near the Security/Reception desk in the campus foyer at Belfast. Simply ‘post’ your book through the slot in the unit and library staff will retrieve it on the next working day and remove the item from your record. Alternatively, you may return items to staff in the campus libraries at Coleraine, Jordanstown or Magee.
Will I be able to access online databases, e-journals and e-books?
Electronic information services will be available from any computer connected to the Internet whether on- or off-campus and are unaffected by the move.
What happens if I want to request an item through the Document Delivery service?
Please make your request as usual and we will let you know if there is likely to be a delay in obtaining the item.
To request items online, please visit the Document Delivery Request Form.
If your question isn’t answered above, please contact Marion Khorshidian, Campus Library Manager (Belfast).
