Service Description

Desktop and laptop systems are available via the National Desktop and Notebook Agreement (NDNA) which after an extensive tender process has been adopted by the University.

With effect from 1 August 2013, all Windows-based desktop and notebook systems will be purchased using this Framework Agreement.

Business Process

As part of the new agreement, the University has agreed hardware specifications which are suitable for supporting Supported Staff Environment Desktops and the University's Desktop Standards Architecture.

Desktop systems before first use should be configured by Customer Services or your Faculty Technical Support Staff  with either an Ulster University  "Desktop Standards" staff image or student image.

Laptops will be imaged and encrypted by Customer Services prior to user deployment.

For desktop and laptop pricing and full specifications please visit the NDNA link at the bottom of the Procurement web site.

Lot 1

Desktop (Lot 1) users must contact the Service Desk on 028 9536 7776 when equipment is delivered to arrange for its connection to the University network.

Lot 2

Laptops (Lot 2) will be delivered to ICT Customer Services, then passed on to the user once encryption and network connectivity is enabled.

Non Standard Specifications

Whenever there is a business requirement to purchase non-standard items, this request will need to be approved by the budget holder.

A statement must be produced to articulate the rationale upon which the decision is made and this must be attached to the requisition or held on file if making payment by the purchase card for audit purposes.

If the lead supplier is unable to supply a specification that meets requirements then a short business case outlining the reasons for buying off contract should be submitted to the Procurement office.

This should also be retained by the faculty/department for audit purposes.
