Information for applicants from Sri Lanka and Ulster University's agent network.

Undergraduate courses

Each course will have slightly different requirements, both in terms of overall points and certain subjects, so please check the relevant subject in the undergraduate on-line prospectus.

You should normally have completed the Sri Lankan O Levels to include English and Maths (where required) with a Credit/Distinction AND hold at least two A Levels (240 UCAS points).

A levels are directly comparable to UK A levels.

Postgraduate courses

Our on-line postgraduate prospectus indicates if there are any additional programme requirements.

Typically we require applicants for taught Masters programmes (MA, MSc, MRes, MBA, MPA, LLM) to hold a Bachelors degree (usually in a relevant subject) with a grade equivalent to a UK upper second class honours.

We would normally expect you to hold a four year bachelor special degrees from a recognised university.

A score of 60-74% from a well ranked institution is considered comparable to a UK 2.1, while a score of 55-59% is considered comparable to a UK 2.2.

In some cases students with a three year First or Upper Second Class Bachelors general degree may be considered.

English Language Entry Requirements

To study at Ulster University, you need good English and we will need to see recent evidence of this (certified within the last two years).

Most of our courses require a minimum English level of IELTS 6.0 or equivalent, with no band score under 5.5. Trinity ISE: Pass at level III also meets this requirement.

Some courses have higher language prerequisites – please check entry requirements on the relevant course webpage.

You may be asked for a Secure English Language Test (SELT) certificate: IELTS or Trinity Integrated Skills in English (ISE), or you may hold other English language qualifications that we can recognise. Please see Here for the complete list of English language tests/qualifications which Ulster University may recognise.

Our Centre for English Language Teaching (CELT) offers a range of English language courses, which are designed to prepare international students with the necessary language skills for academic study at Ulster University.
