Undergraduate courses

Each course will have slightly different requirements, both in terms of overall points and certain subjects, so please check the relevant subject in the undergraduate on-line prospectus.

We typically require you to have a High First Division (70+ or A) in HSC/HSCC, FSc or FA or 'Inter' will be considered for direct entry to Year one of a degree programme or a First Division (60-69) HSC/HSCC, FSc or FA or 'Inter' and you must also have passed one of the following:

  • a recognised one year diploma
  • the first year of a BCom/BSc/BA/BCS (Bachelor of Computer Science) degree

Or if you have a Second Division (50-59) HSC/HSCC, FSc or FA or 'Inter' you must also hold one of the following:

  • a two year Second Division Bachelors Degree (BCom/BSc,/BA/BCS)
  • A Levels
  • a recognised UK Foundation/Access Course

For entry to Postgraduate courses

Typically we require applicants for taught Masters programmes (MA, MSc, MRes, MBA, MPA, LLM) to hold a Bachelors degree (usually in a relevant subject) with a grade equivalent to a UK upper second class honours.

We normally expect you to hold one of the following:

  • a Second Division four year BBA, BSc, BCS, BEng or BEd (for relevant programmes) or a
  • a First or Second Division two year Masters degree and a two year Bachelors Degree

English Language Entry Requirements

To study at Ulster University, you need good English and we will need to see recent evidence of this (certified within the last two years).

Most of our courses require a minimum English level of IELTS 6.0 or equivalent, with no band score under 5.5. Trinity ISE: Pass at level III also meets this requirement.

Some courses have higher language prerequisites – please check entry requirements on the relevant course webpage.

You may be asked for a Secure English Language Test (SELT) certificate: IELTS or Trinity Integrated Skills in English (ISE), or you may hold other English language qualifications that we can recognise. Our Centre for English Language Teaching (CELT) offers a range of English language courses, which are designed to prepare international students with the necessary language skills for academic study at Ulster University.
