Information for applicants from Hong Kong and Ulster University's agent network.
Each course will have slightly different requirements, both in terms of overall points and certain subjects, so please check the relevant subject in the undergraduate on-line prospectus.
If you have taken the Hong Kong Advanced Level Examination (HKALE) or International Baccalaureate (IB) you will need to achieve the required grades to be considered for admission on to undergraduate courses.
HKCEE grades are considered equivalent to GCSE. HKALE grades are normally considered to be equivalent to A-level.
If you have taken the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) you will be considered for admission on to undergraduate courses.
Applicants with a Higher Diploma or an Associate Degree from a recognised university/college may be considered for the direct entry to some of the second-year degree courses.
You are advised to check with our Admissions Team before making an application.
Typically we require applicants for taught Masters programmes (MA, MSc, MRes, MBA, MPA, LLM) to hold a bachelors degree (usually in a relevant subject) with a grade equivalent to a UK upper second class honours.
We would expect candidates for our postgraduate courses to have completed a bachelors degree from a recognised Hong Kong university.
English Language Entry Requirements
To study at Ulster University, you need good English and we will need to see recent evidence of this (certified within the last two years).
Most of our courses require a minimum English level of IELTS 6.0 or equivalent, with no band score under 5.5. Trinity ISE: Pass at level III also meets this requirement.
Some courses have higher language prerequisites – please check entry requirements on the relevant course webpage.
You may be asked for a Secure English Language Test (SELT) certificate: IELTS or Trinity Integrated Skills in English (ISE), or you may hold other English language qualifications that we can recognise. For Hong Kong applicants, we will accept HKDSE English Language: Grade four overall with no less than three in any of the four sub skills as equivalent to IELTS 6.0.
Our Centre for English Language Teaching (CELT) offers a range of English language courses, which are designed to prepare international students with the necessary language skills for academic study at Ulster University.
