Postponement of physical graduation ceremonies
In the context of the pandemic and the restrictions on large public gatherings that remain in place to keep our community safe, we have taken the difficult decision to postpone physical graduation ceremonies for the Class of Summer 2021 and deliver virtual celebrations in recognition of our students' achievements.
With 8,000 students having their degrees conferred this summer, the scale of graduation ceremonies requires significant advance planning within the University and with any external host venues and those plans needed to respond to the social distancing guidance in place to keep us all safe.
We understand that it is disappointing not to attend a physical ceremony this summer but the safety and wellbeing of our students, their families, and our staff, is our top priority. We are committed to offering physical ceremonies for our graduating classes at an appropriate time, when it is safe to do so. We will be in touch with further information in due course.
All academic qualifications are awarded by the University Senate which is continuing to meet and to make all necessary decisions. Although the graduation ceremonies have been postponed, all students who have successfully completed their course will graduate and will receive their degree award and transcript by post in mid-August.

Hire of academic dress and photography
We are offering official gown hire and photography on our Coleraine, Jordanstown and Magee campuses from 8th - 10th July. Unfortunately, we are unable to offer this service on our Belfast campus due to refurbishment works.
Photography and gown hire on campus are subject to a booking system with hourly slots to control numbers and comply with covid safety and social distancing guidelines.
Every student booking a photography session will receive a freshly cleaned gown and gowns will not be reused. All hire gowns will have been specially cleaned before hire and will be cleaned again on return.
Students are advised to book a slot on the campus that is most convenient for them. There is no requirement to go to your campus of study, you can book to attend any campus.
To find out more and book your slot visit the Graduation webpages
Outstanding tuition fees
If you have outstanding tuition fees you can still attend your celebration event, however you will not receive your degree certificate or academic transcript until all outstanding fees have been settled.
Please contact the Tuition Fee office for further information.
Just because you have not yet achieved your intended award, you have not missed out.
If you are permitted to re-take any of your exams or are in the process of an appeal, you will be invited to the next set of celebrations/ceremonies once you have successfully completed your course.
