Pre-Sessional English Language
The Centre for English Language Teaching (CELT), runs pre-sessional English language and study skills courses. These are essential for students who have a conditional offer from Ulster University, but have not yet met the English language requirements of their chosen degree.
Our Summer Pre-sessional courses prepare you for success on your degree by developing your language skills and your understanding of UK academic culture and the expectations of your future faculty.
During these intensive courses, you will have plenty of opportunities to practice and receive detailed feedback on a variety of academic tasks.
You will gain competence in the research and writing skills needed for successful completion of written assignments in your chosen discipline, using appropriate academic conventions and avoiding plagiarism.
You will become familiar with the wide variety of resources available for research, and will develop skills for note taking while listening to academic lectures or reading specialist texts.
You will also learn to give clear, comprehensible and well-structured presentations and to participate in seminars.

There are two Pre-sessional courses:
Pre-sessional Standard is a 7-week intensive English language and academic writing course lasting from July – September.
To apply, you must have a conditional offer from Ulster University with an overall IELTS score of 5.5 or equivalent with only one band acceptable below this (minimum 5.0).

Pre-sessional Plus is an 11-week intensive English language and academic writing course lasting from June – September.
To apply, You must have a conditional offer from Ulster University and an overall IELTS score of 5.0 or equivalent with only one band acceptable below this (minimum 4.5).

You may continue to improve your English language skills and academic writing abilities after completion of the Pre-sessional programmes by choosing to study a number of our In-sessional modules.
In-sessional modules allow you to improve your English language whilst pursuing your course.
In addition, these modules are free to study.
