About
The overall aim of the mini MBA is to educate individuals as managers and business specialists, adding value through an integrated and critical understanding of management and organisations, and developing those transferable and intellectual skills that are essential for successful general and strategic management in both the social economy This module will specifically focus on social enterprises.
This module intends to support students to: ·
- Understand and apply the concept of leadership through strategic management; and synthesise the knowledge, skills and experience to effectively lead and develop people through decision making and communication in social enterprises; ·
- Demonstrate a critical awareness of organisations, how they operate and how external influences and key stakeholders influence their survival and sustainability in the changing social economy environment; and
- Demonstrate innovative and enterprise skills and appreciate the challenges inherent in social entrepreneurial practice.
Career Opportunities
The knowledge and skills gained through this course will help students develop their career and their organisations in the social economy. Students may wish to consider other postgraduate programmes at Ulster University.
Course Duration and Delivery Format
The course is across Semester 2, 2026. Teaching usually take place across 3 days on campus and is complimented by online channels.

Teaching, Learning and Assessment
The course is assessed 100% through coursework.
This course offers various methods of teaching and learning to address the needs of industry and the economy in today's fast-changing world. Assessment will be relevant to students and help them to make an impact in their own jobs or organisations in the social economy.

Course Entry requirements
You should hold a Second-Class Honours Degree or better OR have significant managerial / business experience.
Fee Funding Eligibility
Places are limited and open to applicants who:
- are over 18 years of age;
- are eligible to work in Northern Ireland;
- are ‘settled’ in Northern Ireland or the Republic of Ireland (ROI)*, and has been ordinarily resident for at least three years;
- meet the Ulster University general entry requirements (opens in new window)
* For anyone resident in ROI, you need to be a UK or Irish citizen to be able to apply for this course.
Please note that this programme is not available to applicants with the following residency statuses:
- GB and Islands
- EU excluding ROI qualifying residents
- International students
Terms and Conditions
- Fee funding is paid directly by the Department for the Economy to Ulster University.
- Students cannot redeem the funding for an alternative programme nor redeem the cash value.
- Students cannot redeem this funding in conjunction with any other course fee funding.
- Students can normally only enrol on one programme at Ulster in any one academic year. There may be exceptions if the total credits from more than one programme do no exceed 60 credits.

This degree is open to students with a UG second class honours degree in any subject.
