About the School of Sociology and Applied Social Studies

By choosing to study in the School of Sociology and Applied Social Studies you will be learning about the society around you and how it functions.

We offer vocational training, endorsed by the relevant professional bodies in each discipline, at undergraduate and postgraduate levels alongside certificates and doctoral qualification.

Our Research

Our postgraduate research is facilitated and supported through the faculty's Research Graduate School.

We have a rich and diverse seam of research interests within the School reflecting the international and local reputation of evidence based practice and research.

This includes a Centre of Young Men`s Studies; Sport and Contested Societies; Race Equality; Quality of Life and Well Being; Narrative and Interpretive Policy Analysis; Historical Abuse in Residential Institutions; Decision, Assessment, Risk and Evidence Studies in Social Work; Grassroots Transitional Justice; Transformatory education; Cross cultural understanding, Restorative Justice, security and justice and Youth Work and gender, purpose, evidence and outcomes.

Our research is led by scholars with an international reputation who are leaders in their respective fields and we have a commitment to support and develop PhD studentship within this School.
