Exploring Agentic AI in Judicial Decision-Making: Insights from Portugal
Some of our team have just returned from an engaging and thought-provoking international conference in Lisbon, Portugal, where John Keers had the privilege of presenting alongside Dr. John McCord, one of our esteemed co-investigators. Together, they shared early findings from our ongoing research—supported by the AI Security Institute—on the role of Agentic AI in Judicial Decision-Making.
We are delighted that members of our team at the Centre for Legal Technology were able to showcase aspects of this important work. The project sits at the crossroads of law, ethics, and technology, raising pressing questions about how agentic AI systems—those capable of autonomous actions—might influence or support judicial processes in the near future.
Our presentation sparked rich dialogue and valuable feedback from a diverse international audience of scholars, legal practitioners, technologists, and policymakers. It’s clear that the implications of agentic AI in the justice system are global in scope and significance.
Beyond the conference, we also had the opportunity to explore Lisbon during the downtime. The city proved to be a beautiful and inspiring setting for reflecting on the complex themes discussed throughout the event.
A heartfelt thank-you to the conference organisers and everyone who contributed to such a meaningful exchange of ideas.
Stay tuned—we look forward to sharing further insights as our research continues to develop.
