Taking Boys Seriously Conference - 20th October 2021

Boys as Relational Learners

Taking Boys Seriously Conference with contributions from Education Minister Michelle McIlveen, Chair of the Education Authority Barry Mulholland, Mary Curnock Cook, CBE, and Dr. Ken Harland. 20th October 10am.

Ulster University invites you to attend the Taking Boys Seriously conference on the 20th of October 2021  in partnership with CSSC, CCMS and Youth Action NI from 10:00 to 13:00 online.

We will be launching the trial of the Educational Principles to Support Boys as Relational Learners.

The conference will introduce a set of 10 educational principles for work with boys as relational learners emanating from longitudinal participatory action research in Ulster University.

We will outline the context and method of the Taking Boys Seriously research and our three key concepts.

  1. Compounded educational disadvantage
  2. The ecosystem that enables boys to thrive
  3. Boys as relational learners

We plan to engage with as many educators as possible to use these principles intentionally within practice over the next two years; to test the principles for proof of concept; develop them further, and embed the principles in educational practice.

Delegates will explore how they might get involved in the research and use the 10 educational principles for work with boys as relational learners within their own practice.
