The second day of the Oscillations and Modulations festival...

Making Electronic Music with New Instruments in New Spaces

Oscillations & Modulations is a two–day festival of synthesisers and electronic music, taking place 20th–21st March 2018 at Magee campus and various partner institutions and venues across the city of Derry/Londonderry.

The festival aims to celebrate, explore and expand on an expanding ecosystem of electronic music culture within the city by showcasing and connecting the music makers and teachers, synthesiser designers and performers, music studios and music spaces that help to shape and inspire the musical landscape of the city and beyond.

The second day of the festival will take place at various partner venues across the city, including the Craft Village, Celtronic Studios, NWRC, the Yellow Yard (Abbazappa Record Shop and St Jude Café) and Cultúrlann uí Chanáin.

A brief overview of what to expect

  • Talks / Q&As with industry professionals on new and vintage synthesisers and more
  • Free open days at a number of local music studios, including Movin’ Music Academy, Celtronic Studios and NWRC
  • A practical workshop on building a synthesiser module (wave folder)
  • Various music in some of the city’s most exciting new spaces
  • Showcases from local and not so local electronic artists
  • Showcases from instrument builders and music hardware hackers

Artists include: Ryan Vail, Analog On, Shammen Delly, Vincent and Jonny Boy

Speakers include: Richard Duckworth (Music Department, Trinity College Dublin) and Dr Niall Coghlan (Dundalk Institute of Technology)

This event is a collaboration between the School of Arts and Humanities at Ulster University, Magee campus, Movin’ Music Academy, Celtronic Studios, Cultúrlann uí Chanáin, North West Regional College, the Inner City Trust, Culture Glitch Records, Abbazappa Record Shop, St Judes Cafe and the Yellow Yard.
