This event marks National Harp Day, an initiative led by Harp Ireland to promote Irish harp practice. There will be a number of performances and workshops throughout the island of Ireland this Saturday and the event at Magee campus will feature a performance and workshop by Lauren O’Neill (PhD researcher: Music and Irish) alongside Gráinne Meyer, a classically trained harpist, and Aoibheann Devlin, an early Irish harper.

The event will commence at 12.15 with two workshops; one focusing on the harp as an accompaniment instrument in Irish traditional music and the other focusing on improving technique. Subsequent to the workshops, Aoibheann Devlin will host a 'Try the wires' session, where students can try out the early Irish harp and the music associated with it.

The event will close with a short performance, open to the public, featuring Gráinne Meyer on concert harp, Aoibheann Devlin on early Irish harp and Eugene McKenna and I on fiddle and traditional harp.

The event will be held in the Recital Room and café space in the Foyle Arts Building.
