Welcome, Induction and Belonging in University Life
Facilitate 2 hour welcome and induction workshop with new students in Week 1 as part of the induction schedule; Facilitate 1 hour slot around belonging and challenges of settling in with new First Years in Week 6-8.
Outline of Activity
Following each of these activities, peer mentors will engage in an online reflective activity. As part of this EDGE activity, peer mentors will participate in an induction and subsequent feedback sessions.
Learning Outcomes
- Outline the key elements of peer educational support in Higher Education.
- Recognise the benefits of peer assessment and review in constructing new knowledge.
- To recognise the challenges of student transition and recognise the importance of developing a sense of belonging early in University careers.
- Demonstrate ability to work as part of a team and independently throughout.
Assessment Details
Students will be asked to complete a video-blog reflecting upon their experience. This will outline their personal development and critical reflections as a peer-mentor in student welcome, belonging and transition.
