Youth Engagement in Sport (YES) Programme

Students from the School of Sport receive quality assurance training in delivering the 12 week programme and are then assigned to schools which meet the Widening Access criteria defined by the Ulster University.


Outline of Activity

The Youth Engagement in Sport (YES) programme aims to introduce young men (13-18)from disadvantaged or underrepresented communities to the concept of Higher Educationvia a 12 week sport and physical activity, personal development and raising aspirationsprogramme. YES also aims to facilitate a sustained relationship with the Ulster University foryoung people from disadvantaged areas and the local schools using sport. During the sessions development areas which will be covered will include enhanced active citizenship, educational attainment, good relations and lastly personal development planning.

  • Increased awareness of ‘sport for development’ work in a professional setting
  • Coaching delivery experience
  • Mentoring experience
  • Upskilling in professional responsibilities in the work place
  • Demonstrate a range of coaching and learning strategies in the delivery of activity sessions with participants

Assessment Details

  • Attend YES quality assurance training (1 day)
  • Successfully attain pre-required level of competence prior to deployment
  • Completion of the 12 week YES curriculum
  • Completion of a series of pre-set key performance indicators.
