Small Steps Programme: Volunteer Instructor

This is a programme coordinated by Volunteer Now, Ulster University and Sport NI, aiming to promote awareness of the law and citizenship by delivering sport and law-based sessions to P7 children.


Outline of Activity

This role can be taken by any student. They will receive comprehensive training in delivering the sessions to P7 children on their school premises. Session delivery will now all take place on the same day, rather than over a 5-week period.

Learning Outcomes

  • Coaching delivery experience
  • Mentoring experience
  • Upskilling in professional responsibilities in the work place
  • Demonstrate a range of coaching and learning strategies in the delivery of activity sessions with participants.
  • Apply and further their knowledge to help develop and deliver interactive sessions.

Assessment Details

  • Attend the volunteer training day.
  • Complete the child safeguarding course.
  • Successfully attain the pre-required level of competence for deployment
  • Delivery of the sessions to at least one P7 group.

Level of Commitment

  • 6 hours for training
  • 3 hours for online training
  • At least 6 hours for in-school delivery.
