Small Steps Programme: Volunteer Instructor

This is a programme coordinated by Volunteer Now, Ulster University and Sport NI, aiming to promote awareness of the law and citizenship by delivering sport and law-based sessions to P7 children.


Outline of Activity

Students will be recruited from Ulster University and will be members of the School of Sport or School of Law. They receive comprehensive training in delivering the 5- week programme to schools and are then assigned to respective schools in areas of high deprivation.

  • Coaching delivery experience
  • Mentoring experience
  • Upskilling in professional responsibilities in the work place
  • Demonstrate a range of coaching and learning strategies in the delivery of activity sessions with participants.
  • Apply and further their knowledge to help develop and deliver interactive sessions.

Assessment Details

  • Attend training day.
  • Attend at least one 'Inspire Me' day hosted by Ulster University.
  • Successfully attain pre required level of competence prior to deployment.
  • Completion of the 5-week Small Steps programme.
  • Completion of a series of pre set key performance indicators.

Level of Commitment

Minimum of 22 hours to include:
