Sport For LIFE All Island Programme: Tutor Team

This programme will give 4000, 8-9 year old children from areas of social and economic disadvantage the opportunity to increase knowledge and understanding of the benefits of regular participation in sport and physical activity.


Outline of Activity

In order to facilitate the delivery of SFLAI across the Island of Ireland in partnership with Dublin City University, University College Cork, Galway and Mayo IT, Sligo IT, over 200 student volunteers from these institutions were trained to deliver the programme. Students from Ulster University who demonstrated outstanding ability in delivery of the SFLAI programme were recruited and trained as tutors for the Sport for LIFE All Island teacher training programme delivered to students from DCU, Sligo IT, GMIT and UCC.

Learning Outcomes

  • Prepare effective tutor materials specific to SFLAI
  • Deliver SFLAI training to novice student volunteers
  • Demonstrate strong communication and leadership skills
  • Demonstrate sound interpersonal skills
  • Provide effective feedback to student volunteers.

Assessment Details

  • Attend Sport for LIFE Tutor Training (1 day)
  • Successfully attain pre required level of competence prior to deployment as a tutor
  • Completion of tutor training materials in advance of student volunteer training
  • Completion of tutor training in external institution.

Level of Commitment

Minimum 30 hours.
