Leadership in Crisis, Disasters and Catastrophes

Year 3 nursing students are expected to respond to at least 4 scenarios related to crisis, disaster and/ or catastrophe.


Outline of Activity

These scenarios are organised in partnership with the PSNI, Red Cross, Public Health Agency and Local Health Service Trust.

Learning Outcomes

  • Display leadership ability in crisis, disaster and catastrophic situations.
  • Develop personal resilience to cope with crisis, disaster and catastrophic situations.
  • Gain new confidence and self-awareness in relation to leadership in crisis, disaster and catastrophic situations.

Assessment Details

Students are expected to complete a 500 – 700 word reflective piece that confirms discussion with the sign-off mentor in practice learning during the final placement of the programme.

Comments from the sign-off mentor shall be included.

Level of Commitment

30 hours.
