Fighting Words Creative Writing Mentor

The Fighting words project welcomes school groups and community youth groups to the Riverside Theatre for a two-hour story-writing workshop. Arriving with nothing but their imaginations, the participants leave as published writers.


Outline of Activity

Writing mentors are a crucial part of our workshops, giving individual attention to children and young people to help them develop their writing. Listening to participants' ideas. Encouraging participants to use their imaginations, emphasising the importance of creativity. Supporting participants in developing their ideas. Giving constructive feedback on participants' work. Assisting in the setting up, running and clearing away at designated events. On-site implementation of Health & Safety and Child Protection policies in accordance with induction and training.

Learning Outcomes

  • Gain a knowledge of working public arts & cultural building.
  • Gain a knowledge and receive training of Ulster University Child Protection policies and procedures.
  • Develop communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Gain professional training and experience of best practise delivering creative programmes to children and young people working alongside professional arts and education facilitators.

Assessment Details

Complete a workbook/log reflecting the skills you have developed during participating in this activity. This will be verified by the Riverside Theatre Manager.
