Young Enterprise Start Up Programme

Starting your own business is a key career option and this activity helps students understand the fundamentals of starting a business. Working as part of a team of at least 10 students you will launch and run a business.


Outline of Activity

This programme will see students buy shares, appoint a board of directors, launch a product or services, trade for 5 months before winding up the company and sharing the profits. Each campus team will have an Academic Enterprise Advisor, Industry Business Advisor and Admin Assistant to help with the workload of running a business alongside their studies.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Enterprise Skills related to Self-employment and Business Management
  2. Self-awareness and understanding of personal strengths and weaknesses
  3. Complete understanding of company structure, finance and operations
  4. Ability to act on an idea and turn it into a business gaining an entrepreneurial mindset
  5. An understanding of launching and winding up a business and the legal requirements that go with this.

Assessment Details

Each student on each campus will submit a 500 reflection piece on their role within the company i.e. Marketing Director and complete a self-assessment form submitted to Young Enterprise Northern Ireland.

Level of Commitment

Students will be expected to attend fortnightly board meetings on their campus in semester one and two.

The programme launches in October and finishes in April each year.
