Graduate Outcomes Survey

The biggest UK annual social survey capturing the perspectives and current status of recent graduates.

The Graduate Outcomes survey is the biggest annual social survey in the UK and captures the perspectives and current status of graduates. All graduates who completed a higher education course in the UK after August 2017 are asked to take part in the survey 15 months after they finish their studies. The survey is managed by the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA) and appointed contractors will contact you via email and/or phone to complete the survey. The University is responsible for collecting and providing your contact details and ensuring that you are aware of the survey and are encouraged to complete it.

Your valuable response adds to the collective voice of graduates and the results will give current and future students an insight into career destinations and development. Your responses will also help your university or college to evaluate and promote their offerings.

The survey looks to understand whether you’re in employment, have continued with further study or are doing something else and to what extent your qualification played a part. The term ‘outcomes’ in our survey’s name is key – we want to gain insight into whether the student experience delivered what was promised to you, from a learning and potential employment perspective. We don’t expect every path or destination to be totally straightforward.

It’s not just your university or college that’s listening to you, the survey has large-scale national significance too. It helps the Government, charities, journalists, researchers and others to understand the higher education sector and the state of the graduate labour market.

What will I be asked?

The survey asks you about what you’re doing 15 months after completing your higher education course. It also asks some subjective questions about how you feel about your current situation and general wellbeing. The survey includes a set of core questions and your response won’t be used if you don’t answer all of these questions.

When will I be surveyed?

You will be contacted approximately 15 months after your graduation from the University. Firstly you will receive an email inviting you to take the survey. If you do not complete it online then you will be contacted via phone.

Where can I find out more information?

The Higher Education Statistics Agency have created this website for students and graduates. It includes a useful Q&A section for all the common questions. You can also contact Employability & Careers below.
