PhD Study : Performance Art in Northern Ireland

Apply and key information

Summary

The researcher undertaking this project will already be familiar with the field of performance art in Northern Ireland, possibly having an established track record of theoretical and/or practice-based work in the field. They will investigate a range of theoretical and historical issues pertaining to visual art and begin by surveying Northern Irish performance artists and any interconnecting arts organisations, independent artist generated activities, projects and events, whose practice engages (directly or indirectly) with the Troubles and its legacy in Northern Ireland.

The researcher will contribute to the under-researched field of art historical and theoretical studies pertaining to Northern Irish Performance art, paying close attention to how performance art is historicised and theorised internationally. This study can have a practice based or practice led component part and be led by the researcher’s own performance practice.
