On completion of this short course, participants will have a broad understanding of leadership and management skills. A range of tools and techniques to add value through an integrated and critical understanding of management and organisations will be covered.

Those who complete the short course successfully may also wish to progress to complete a full Executive MBA.

About

The overall aim of the mini MBA is to educate individuals as managers and business specialists, adding value through an integrated and critical understanding of management and organisations, and developing those transferable and intellectual skills that are essential for successful general and strategic management in both private and public sector organisations.

The Mini MBA aims to:

  • Develop multidisciplinary and international perspectives, concepts and issues in the major management disciplines.
  • Provide toolkits and techniques for analysing business and management issues.
  • Stimulate the ability to analyse, synthesise and apply knowledge and understanding to solve management problems critically, rationally and rigorously.
  • Appreciate and apply contemporary management and information systems to aid strategic decision making in business and management.
  • Develop an appreciation of, appetite and responsibility for lifelong learning and personal development.
  • Prepare participants for leadership and transformational roles in business in the changing external context in which they operate.
  • Develop strategic thinking, innovation and entrepreneurial skills.
  • Develop interpersonal and group-working skills.

The course is delivered over five full days:

Days 1 & 2 - People and Leadership

This will introduce different organisation types and how individuals, teams, managers and leaders operate within such organisational structures.

Day 3 - Accounting and Finance

This will help participants to gain an appreciation of the financial health of organisations by examining financial tools such as balance sheet, profit and loss within the context of overall financial strategy.

Day 4 - Innovation

This will focus on how organisations create a culture of innovation and how individual entrepreneurial behaviours can be encouraged and harnessed in this process.

Day 5 - Strategy and Change

This will introduce models of strategy and how organisations successfully implement change policies in order to achieve their intended strategic direction.

Assessment

100% Coursework -Assessment will be via a portfolio of work, with participants relating the theory learned to their own organisation.

The course runs over five full days as follows:

Day 5 -Strategy and Change

Entry requirements

Applicants should normally have a first degree (in any subject area) and three years of relevant work experience. Applications are welcome from those who have equivalent professional qualifications or significant management or leadership experience.

The course is currently only open to Axiom employees.

English Language Requirements

International applicants whose first language is not English must meet the minimum English entrance requirements of the University, which is a minimum acceptable score for the British Council IELTS of 6.0 (with no contributing band of less than 5.5) or equivalent.
