This course aims to provide participants with an introduction to the financial issues and techniques involved in managerial decision-making.

Summary

The aim of this course is to provide participants with an introduction to the financial issues and techniques involved in managerial decision-making and control. Financial decisions and their implications are required to be considered by all organisations. The accounting function cannot be viewed in isolation from the other key functional areas of management and it is important therefore, that managers understand the integrative nature of financial decision-making both at an operational and strategic level.

About

The aim of this course is to provide participants with an introduction to the financial issues and techniques involved in managerial decision-making and control. Financial decisions and their implications have to be considered by all organisations. The accounting function cannot be viewed in isolation from the other key functional areas of management and it is important therefore, that managers understand the integrative nature of financial decision making both at an operational and strategic level. The course will also aim to develop integrative, analytical, reflective and managerial decision-making skills.

This course is suitable for anyone with an interest in finding out more about financial management.

Assessment

50% Coursework, 50% Examination – Coursework is a group assignment on the topic of analysis of financial statements (2500 words) together with an individual learning log. Examination is two hours duration plus 15 minutes reading time.

Attendance

This course requires attendance on Mondays 10.15am - 1.15pm during the 12 week semester (September to December) starting Monday 25 September 2017.

Entry requirements

Any undergraduate degree.

English Language Requirements

International applicants whose first language is not English must meet the minimum English entrance requirements of the University, which is a minimum acceptable score for the British Council IELTS of 6.0 (with no contributing band of less than 5.5) or equivalent.
