The objective of this short course is to develop the student’s understanding of product specific directives in relation to processed foods using a number of specific examples and to highlight issues in relation to the labelling requirements.

The objective of this short course is to develop the student’s understanding of product specific directives in relation to processed foods using a number of specific examples and to highlight issues in relation to the labelling requirements.

*Note: It is suggested that participants should take IFST Short Course: Food Law and Food Regulation before taking part in this course.

Content:

  • History of EU Legislation related to processed foods
  • Current EU Product Specific Directives: chocolate; coffee and chicory extracts; jams, jellies and sweetened chestnut puree; fruit juices; honey; preserved milk; sugars
  • Labelling requirements of processed foods

Assessment

A multiple choice questionnaire will be offered to students as a tool for self-assessment of the acquired knowledge.

This course is delivered online through the University of Ulster's Virtual Learning Environment.

This course is self-paced and open for enrolment at any time.
