The objective of this short course is to provide an overview of the current regulatory situation related to food and other products of plant origin. Issues related to the food chain highlighting the peculiarities related to food and other products of plant origin will also be discussed. In addition, the recent and/or future developments of EU food law and their impact on food and other products of plant origin will be examined.

*Note: It is suggested that participants should take IFST Short Course: Food Law and Food Regulation before taking part in this course.

The objective of this short course is to provide an overview of the current regulatory situation related to food and other products of plant origin. Issues related to the food chain highlighting the peculiarities related to food and other products of plant origin will also be discussed. In addition, the recent and/or future developments of EU food law and their impact on food and other products of plant origin will be examined.

Content:

  • EU legislation on food hygiene in relation to food of plant origin
  • Contaminants in food of plant origin: agricultural, environmental and industrial
  • Natural plant toxins
  • Seeds and cereals; Fruit and vegetables
  • Plant health
  • Pesticides, fertilisers and environmental concerns

Assessment

A multiple choice questionnaire will be offered to students as a tool for self-assessment of the acquired knowledge.

This course is delivered online through the University of Ulster's Virtual Learning Environment.

This course is self-paced and open for enrolment at any time.
