Summary

Study Motivational interviewing at Ulster University in the United Kingdom.

This module will develop the knowledge, skills and values to enable the student to become proficient at the intervention know as MI. The student will get an opportunity to practice the skills of MI in a safe environment and receive feedback about their development in this approach to care. Assessment is by coursework.

About

This module is designed to assist students in developing relevant knowledge to underpin Motivational Interviewing (MI) to assist the person who seeks change. This module will allow the student to practice the skills needed to perform MI in a safe environment.

This module is available as a standalone module / credit bearing module.

Attendance

Module runs over a 12 week period in total. All students are expected to attend all classes associated with the programme and be punctual and regular in attendance (where applicable). Attendance will be monitored at the University and Employers are informed of all absences.

Entry requirements

  • Satisfy the University’s general entry requirements as set out in the prospectus or demonstrate their ability to undertake the course through the accreditation of prior experiential learning (APEL). https://www.ulster.ac.uk/apply/entrance-requirements
  • Normally required to hold a level 5 Diploma in Nursing (or equivalent) but the initial offer standard may vary from year to year.
  • English language requirements for international applicants. Please contact the module co-ordinator

COMMISSIONED PLACES
Anyone who will be receiving a Commissioned place from the Department of Health (DoH) in Northern Ireland) via their HSC Trust should contact the Practice Education Team in their Health and Social Care Trust in order to obtain a Commissioned Application Form. The HSCT will manage your application. Please DO NOT apply directly via the University online application system.
