About

Course Description

The objective of this short course is to provide students with an overview of globalisation of food supply including the international organisations responsible of global food safety. An overview of US food law and the organisations involved in setting standards on food safety will be given. In addition, the new FDA Food Safety Modernisation Act will be described in detail.

Content:

  • International food security and food safety
  • Globalisation and the World Trade Organisation (WTO)
  • International food regulatory bodies, policy, guidelines and standards
  • Role of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) & the US Department of Agriculture (USDA)
  • FDA Food Safety Modernisation Act
  • Food Emergency Response Network

Assessment

A multiple choice questionnaire will be offered to students as a tool for self-assessment of the acquired knowledge.
