Objectives

The objective of this short course is to explain how the EU approach to food quality has developed over a period of more than 25 years. The course will also consider the resultant legislative initiatives and to examine why quality is such an important issue for the European Commission at present.

Content:

  • Defining and legislating for quality
  • Development of EU aims in respect of the quality of foodstuffs
  • Current mechanisms developed for the protection of the quality of foodstuffs
  • Future developments in the area of food quality.

Lectures (3 hours) Independent study (2 hours) Self-assessment (1 hour).

Please note that this course is self-paced and open for enrolment at any time, the start date is the earliest date that enrolments are permitted.

Assessment

A multiple choice questionnaire will be offered to students as a tool for self-assessment of the acquired knowledge.
